Michael Arlen Sturgill

Michael Arlen Sturgill, 58, of Kingston passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family due to a long battle with ALS on October 12, 2024. He was born on December 29, 1965 in Ironton, Ohio to William Sturgill and Freda Phillips. He spent his early years in Ironton raised by his father and step mother Betty (Browning) Sturgill whom he loved dearly.

A graduate of Ironton High School where he played football and was proud to call himself a fighting tiger, even following them throughout the rest of his life. Michael was an outdoorsman, bass fisherman, dedicated Kenworth employee, but most importantly the greatest Son, Father, and Husband we could ever ask for.

He is survived by his father William Arlen Sturgill, his wife Cherie (Simmons) Sturgill, sons William Michael (Emily) Sturgill and William Charles Robert Sturgill, grandchild Archer Gearhart, siblings Janie Knipp, Elaine (John) Melvin, Leigha Sturgill, Roxanne (Rick) Robinson, Ina Boyer. He is also survived by his In-laws with whom he was close with, Alvan (Ginny) Howard,  Bud, Dave, Fred, and Patty Simmons along with a plethora of his nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his biological mother Freda Phillips, mother Betty Browning Sturgill, brothers and sister-in-laws Steve, Bill, and Dolly Simmons.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 19th, 2024 at noon at Wellman Funeral Home 16451 ST. RTE 56 E Laurelville, Ohio Burial to follow in Hallsville Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10-12.  Family will be holding a celebration of Michael’s life following proceedings at the Bingo Hall in Hallsville, located behind the firehouse, all family and friends are welcomed to join in helping us remember Michael as he will be greatly missed.
