Montford Carl Kirkwood, Jr. age 90, passed away peacefully at his residence on Monday August 18, 2008. He was born March 20, 1918 in Circleville, OH, the son of the late Montford Sr. and Orpha (Hammel) Kirkwood. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lucille Kirkwood and infant brother, Addison. He is survived by his high school sweetheart, wife, Alma “Patty” (Hosler) Kirkwood of 63 years, daughters, Carol (Chuck) Hocevar of Hilton Head Island, SC and Cheryl (John) Stout of Circleville; granddaughters, Lisa (Bart) Wetherington of Savannah, GA, Lindsay Cottrill of Charleston, SC, Emily (Joshua) Brown of Newport News, VA and Elizabeth Stout of Circleville; 4 great grandchildren, Jay, KC, Sarah and Ashleigh of Savannah, GA; extended family, Samuel Couch and Tyler Puckett and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He graduated from Circleville High School in 1937, served in the U.S. Air Force WWII in China, Burma and India from 1942-1945; retired from General Electric after 33 years serving as supervisor of quality inspection. He was a member of Noon Rotary with 50 yrs. perfect attendance, editor of the Rotary flashes for 23 yrs. and received the Paul Harris Fellow award. He was a life time member of Good Shepherd U.M.C., choir director for 25 plus years, served as church treasurer, Sunday school teacher and superintendent and trustee. He was actively involved for many years with these community service organizations, Circleville Emergency Squad, Circleville Band Boosters, Circleville Community Mission, Circleville Choral Group, Circleville Community Band, Circleville Red Cross, Amercian Legion, Easter Seals and Hands for the Disabled in Pickaway County. Montford was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He enjoyed his many wonderful hobbies of woodworking, building, creating and working in his yard and home for many years. He has touched so many lives and was so special and dear to all who knew him and will be greatly missed by us all. Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday August 22, 2008 at the Good Shepherd U.M.C. with Pastor Michael Messick officiating. Private family burial will be held in Forest Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the Wellman Funeral Home, Circleville. Memorial contributions may be made to Good Shepherd U.M.C. or Berger Hospice.
