Myron James Schelb passed away on January 1, 2014, at the age of 96. He was born on February 13, 1917, in Fremont, Ohio, to John Henry and Edith Schelb. He was the second of three children, with a brother Jean Schelb and sister Florence Zienta. Myron married the love of his life, Grace Dickman, on April 29, 1939. They cherished each other during their 74 years of marriage and their love was an inspiration to everyone who knew them. They moved to Circleville, Ohio, in 1952, and raised three children; Dianne and (Donald Schmidt), Galen and (Mary Margaret Schelb), and the late Elaine (Mitzi) Schelb. Myron had three grandchildren, Susanne and (Chad Franks), Debra Schmidt, and Tanya and (Tom Berry). He had five great grandchildren who loved and adored him; Abigail and Hank Berry, Megan Leathers, and Savannah and Makayla Franks. Myron graduated from engineering school in Los Angeles and later worked at Wright Patterson AFB during WWII. He worked at Lockbourne AFB in Columbus, and Norton Field. Myron enjoyed flying airplanes, owned his own plane, and flew until he was unable to fly because of health reasons. Myron became a partner with Warren Harmon for H&S Service airport and expanded his business with an International Harvester truck dealership. Later he acquired a General Motors Dealership, and became partners with Bill Davies until his retirement in 1984. In 1965, Myron organized and helped establish the Knights of Columbus in Circleville, Ohio, and was a 4th degree lifetime charter member until his death. He was instrumental in building the current Knights of Columbus Hall. He loved to square dance and was a member of the Round Town Squares group. He was also an active member of St. Joseph’s Church. He stayed busy in his retirement years and lived life to the fullest. He traveled all over the world to explore new places and visited with family and friends. He will be remembered for his talent and love of ping pong and golf. On September 10, 2004, Myron won an award for a Hole in One at the Crown Hill Golf Course at the young age of 87. Myron was loved and adored by all who knew him. His bright smile, great sense of humor, and zest for life will be greatly missed. He will be loved forever and never be forgotten. The showing will be on Thursday, January 9, 2014 at Wellman Funeral Home on North Court Street from 4-6 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Saint Joseph’s Church on Friday, January 10, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. and he will be buried in Saint Joseph’s Cemetery.
