Nathalie Jean (Degarmo) Fleming

Nathalie J. Fleming (nee DeGarmo), age 87, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2021 surrounded by family. Everyone knew her as "Ta-Ta", a beloved nickname given to her 67 years ago by her then young nephew who was just learning to speak. She was very proud to be a Ta-Ta to many.

Born on July 28, 1933, Nathalie was the second daughter of the late James Edward DeGarmo and Dean Alla DeGarmo (nee Burnett). After her retirement from Beachwood Board of Education, she enjoyed traveling, learning, reading, puzzles, declaring herself the queen of Amazon, and of course, always being the life of the party. Nathalie lived life as if there was no tomorrow. She was a strong woman of faith who faced life’s challenges with prayer, grace, and a great sense of humor. If you truly knew her, you knew she was ornery with a twinkle in her eye and had a quick wit that resulted in many stories & laughter. She was genuinely kind hearted which won over many people. She never met a stranger and was loved by many.

Nathalie was preceded in death by her parents, sister Katherine Smith, and brother-in-law William J. Smith. She is survived by her nephews Thomas Smith Sr. (Joan), Michael Smith (Susie), and Steven Smith (Catherine), and niece Wendy Poling (Christopher). She has many great-nieces/nephews and great-great nieces/nephews. In recent years, the apples of her eyes were Michael and Matthew, who deeply loved their Ta-Ta.

Celebration of life services will be held later this year; one in Circleville, OH and one in Cleveland, OH. The family will provide specific information at a later date.

To honor her love of adventures and learning, in lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for a small contribution to the scholarship fund created in her name.
