Nita Van Green, 72, of Chillicothe, went from death to life, 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at Adena Hospital following an extended illness…She was born October 21, 1951 in Chillicothe to the late Paul Fortner Sr. and Norma (Hardman) Fortner.  She is survived by her husband E. Wayne Green whom she married on August 27, 1971.  Also surviving are children, Jonathan (Brandi) Green of Washington C.H., Jeremy (Brittany) Green of Clarksburg; grandchildren Gracee and Jeremiah Green of Washington C.H., Brennan and Gatlin Green of Clarksburg.  She was predeceased by brother Roger, sister-in-law Carolena (Terry) Fortner, sister Phyllis (Fortner) Wade, brother-in-law Roger Wade, sister Trisha (Fortner) Wilson.  She pastored with her husband at the First Church of God, Circleville for 41 years and ministered in many areas of the church.  Nita worked as the catalog librarian at Wasserstrom Restaurant Supply in Columbus…She worked as secretary for Harveststore Grain...Nita served as secretary at the New Holland Elementary and as the EMIS secretary at Miami Trace Elementary in the Miami Trace Local School District for 26 years, from which she retired in 2021.  There she loved and was loved by staff and students alike.  Nita loved her herd (the name she gave her family) fiercely.  She thoroughly enjoyed time with her family which included all holidays, especially Christmas Evie, and many family beach and mountain vacations.   Her grandbabies were her everything.  She enjoyed attending their sporting events and extra-curricular activities.  The family ritual of Thursday night Pizza Night was a favorite of hers.  She strongly believed that “Home is where the Herd is.”  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the First Church of God Building Fund, 1899 Kingston Pike, Circleville, Ohio 43113.  Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at noon at First Church of God with Pastor Wayne Green officiating with burial to follow in Hitler Ludwig Cemetery.  Visitation will be on Saturday at the church from 10-12.  Online condolences can be made to www.wellmanfuneralhomes.com.
