Norman Lee Thompson, 80, of Laurelville, died December 4, 2008 at Logan Elm Health Care. He was born August 12, 1928 in Hocking County, the son of Charlie and Helena (Garrett) Thompson. He was a member of the Laurel Hills United Methodist Church for 52 years. Owned and operated with his brother, Robert their family business Thompson Lumber Company in Laurelville. He worked in the timber and sawmill business all his life. He retired January 1, 1993. He enjoyed playing his violin, along with his blue grass music and friends and he always looked forward to riding his 4 wheeler in the Hocking Hills. He was preceded in death by his parents; step mother, Goldie (Turner) Thompson; brothers, Harold and Robert and sister, Margie. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, to whom he married July 10, 1948, Violet (Poling) Thompson; sons, Terry (Karen) and David; grandchildren, Kim, Travis and Kelly; brothers & sisters-in-law, Norman “Beecher” (Norma) Poling, Delbert (Arlene) Poling, Jerry (Joyce) Poling, Garry (Mary) Poling, Gerald “Pete” (Bobbi) Poling, Donna Swackhammer, Amy Karr, Wanda Johnson, Janet Amerine and Marlene Thompson Riddle and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the Wellman Funeral Home, Laurelville, with Pastor Becky Ploughe and Pastor Thomas Jividen officiating. Burial will be in Green Summit Cemetery. Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Laurel Hills U.M.C.
