O. Charles Hosterman passed away peacefully at the Kobacker House hospice facility in Columbus, Ohio on July 12, 2013, after a brief illness. Born on October 13, 1937, in Buffalo, NY, he was the son of Dr. Oliver W. Hosterman and Katherine May Hosterman. In 1940, the family moved to Columbus, OH. He graduated from Upper Arlington High School in 1956 and attended Kenyon College from 1956 to 1960. He received his Bachelor of Arts from The Ohio State University and his Juris Doctor degree from The Ohio State College of Law in 1964. He passed the bar in May of 1965 and in June of that year moved to Circleville and began in private practice in the former law office of Charles H. May and Richard Penn. He served as city solicitor for Circleville, OH and continued in private practice in the law firm of Margulis, Gussler, Hall and Hosterman. He then took the bench as Judge of the Municipal Court for the City of Circleville in 1976. Following his last term, he served 10 years as Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio. He was a member of the Pickaway County Bar Association, past-president of the Young Lawyers Association for the State of Ohio, past-president of Rotary and a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a long standing member of the Elks Club, a Mason, and he served on the Circleville Pumpkin Show Parade Committee. He was a proud member of Alpha Delta Phi fraternity since 1960.
He married the love of his life, Lucy (Tracy) Hosterman on June 15, 1962, she survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Tracy Hosterman and son-in-law John DeLap of Columbus, Indiana, and son Christopher of Circleville. He is also survived by granddaughters Katherine Sophia and Sarah Jane DeLap and grandsons Charles W. and Samuel J. DeLap; brothers John Hosterman (Madeline) of Circleville and David (Pat) Hosterman of Poway, CA; step-brother Dudley (Mary Beth) of Powell, OH; numerous nieces and nephews; cousins Jane Lucas (Bob) of Columbus, Bill Workman (Betty) of Beulah, Michigan, and Charles H. May (Elaine) of Lake Bluff, Illinois; and numerous longtime friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed playing the guitar, and spending time with his friends and family. He loved the practice of law and his years in public service. He was a rabid fan of The Ohio State University football team (a fact he was never too shy to let people know) and the Cincinnati Reds. He will be sadly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him. Memorial donations may be made to the Ohio Health Foundation which supports the Kobacker House or a charity of the donor’s choice. Visitation will be held at Wellman Funeral Home in Circleville, OH from 3:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. on Monday July 15th. A memorial service will be held at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in Circleville at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, July 16th. Please join us to celebrate a life well lived.
