Olamae “Fritz” Cox, 101, died Sunday, May 14th, 2023, Mother’s Day, at her son’s home in Colleyville, Texas.  It was also her Beloved husband, Lt Col William A. Cox’s, birthday.  She was born May 24, 1921 to Louis Carter and Lucy Pinchback Carter in Syracuse, New York.  She was raised in Utica New York graduating from The Utica Free Academy after which she attended and graduated from Syracuse University with a degree in Library Science in 1942.

She next taught English and was the librarian at Colton High School, Colton New York before marrying the love of her life, then Lt. William A. Cox, in Columbus, Mississippi on February 18, 1943.  She became a military wife for 23 years traveling the world at moment’s notice as her husband was reassigned to different missions. They were the parents of two sons, William L. Cox and Michael H. Cox.

They retired in Circleville in 1964.  She became active in many of the local organizations and for many years was on the staff of the Pickaway County District Public Library.  She retired as the Director of the Library in 1985.  She then began traveling extensively throughout the world.  It was one of her greatest pleasures.

She is survived by sons Commander William L. Cox, USN (Ret), his wife Donna, (Kitzman), in Arizona, Colonel Michael H. Cox, USAF (Ret), his wife Shirley, (Thomas), in Texas.

Grandchildren Eric, Ian and Todd Cox in Arizona, Brook C. Cox (Erinn) in Cincinnati, Ohio, John Peterson in Denver, Colorado and Melanie Conrad (David) in Richmond, Va.

Great Grandchildren Sophia, Charlotte and William Cox in Cincinnati, Ohio, Emily Peterson in Denver, Colorado and Michael Conrad in Richmond Virginia.

She was predeceased by husband, Lt. Col. William A. Cox, 1967, grandson William M. Cox, 1993, grandson Brian Cox, 2013 and great granddaughter Alyssa Peterson in 2019.

A brief Memorial service will be held at 3:00 on Friday May 19, 2023 at Wellman Funeral Home followed by internment at Forest Cemetery.
