Paul David Schein, 91, passed away on January 12, 2017. He was born April 5, 1925 in Pickaway County, Ohio, the son of George Christian Schein and Hannah M. Robison Schein. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Harold and Carl Schein. He graduated from Williamsport High School in 1943 and served in the US Army in WWII in the 319 Infantry Regiment of the 80th Infantry Division of the 3rd Army under General Patton. While in basic training, Paul was the first string point guard for the Army Basketball team. In 1946, he married Mary Alice Puffinbarger in Williamsport, OH. Paul is survived by his wife of 70 years and his son, David (Karen) Schein and daughters, Patty (Matt) Weiland, Judy (Rob) Skidmore, and Nancy (Pat) Hurley. Also surviving are his beloved grandchildren, John (Katie) Skidmore, Kelly (Duce) Black, Mike Weiland (Christa Crook), Andy Weiland, Stephen Hurley (Lauren Elsea), and Gracie (Zachary) Krouse; great-grandchildren Lillian and Jackson Skidmore and Ruby Black; friend, Paul Azbell; numerous nieces and nephews and many good friends. He was a member of the American Legion-Minor Post #618 of Williamsport, the Heber Lodge #0501 F&AM and Williamsport United Methodist Church and was a 4-H advisor of Deercreek Livestock for over 20 years. Paul was a lifelong farmer in Deercreek Township and worked at the Pickaway County ASCS Office. He served on the boards of the ASCS Office and the Soil and Water Conservation Board, and numerous committees within his church. Paul’s greatest joy was spending time with his family and supporting his children and grandchildren in their various activities in sports, 4-H, church, school and theater. In addition to his family activities, he had a wide variety of interests in life including basketball, baseball, Archeology, woodworking, hunting, fishing, trapping, math (tutoring numerous young people), science, Native American studies, flower growing and flower arranging. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 17, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the Wellman Funeral Home, Circleville with burial to follow in Springlawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday 2-5 p.m. Memorial contributions can be made to the Pickaway County 4-H Endowment Fund (checks payable to The Ohio State University, indicate in memo line: Pickaway County 4-H Fund #605794 and mailed to OSU Extension Pickaway County, PO Box 9, Circleville Ohio 43113); the Williamsport United Methodist Church ; or the Westfall Education Foundation.
