Paul Underwood

Paul Underwood, 79, of Florida passed away on Saturday, January 9, 2016 in Florida.
Paul moved into Southern Lifestyle in Florida in September 2014. He was born on May 5, 1936 in Charleston, West Virginia, to Gladys (Miller) and Willis Underwood. As most wives were in the '30s Gladys was a homemaker and Willis worked as a furnace operator at Owens-Illinois Glass Company. Willis was in the Navy and was in WW II. Paul can still tell you what a great cook his mother was. Paul was raised in West Virginia and the oldest of four children. Paul married Betty Jo Hill in 1954. In his younger years Paul worked as a gas meter reader, worked at a glass manufacturing plant, and managed a gas station in West Virginia. He then went on to deliver milk; back in the days when milk was delivered in glass containers. In 1962 Paul and Betty packed up their belonging and two children and moved to Titusville, Florida, moving right next door to Paul's sister. Paul delivered milk and ice cream to schools. As the years went on both Paul and Betty remarried to other partners, each having another son. Paul and Betty were remarried to each other (3 times is charm) and stayed together until Betty passed away in January 2007. Paul lived in Michigan and Ohio for the next 50 +/- years, mainly working as a commercial truck driver and retiring through the Teamers Union. He worked for Owens-Illinois and Consolidated Freight. He traveled and was away from home five days a week for many years, coming home only on weekends. Paul has three children and one stepson, Keith (Crissy), Paul Jr. (Sherry) Underwood and Paula (Kerry) Eldon, 12 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren and one brother, Gary Underwood. He retired in Ohio and spent a lot of his retirement years with family fishing, camping, riding 4-wheelers and golf carts. He talked all year about deer hunting and was always ready to go hunting with his brother, son, and grandsons around Thanksgiving every year. He loves playing bingo and watching the grandchildren sing and play music. He has a special calmness that makes the smaller grandchildren and family dogs want to stay on his lap and be by his side. Rumor has it that he enjoys the activities at Southern Lifestyle and is ready to jump up and do whatever activity is going on. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 14, 2016 at Noon in the Wellman Funeral Home, Circleville with Chaplain Jim Ferrell officiating with burial to follow in Maple Hill Cemetery.
