Ralph Leroy Amey, 89, died Tuesday, Feb. 21, at Pickaway Manor, where he had received excellent care for three years.
He was born April 11, 1922, in Ambler, PA, the son of Herbert and Elsie Amey, who preceded him in death.
He also was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Annabelle; one sister and three brothers including Edward Amey, who was mayor of Circleville in 1951-52.
He is survived by two sons, David (Karen Lee) of Circleville and Herbert (JoAnn) of Durham, NC. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Angie Amey of Circleville, Ted (Jill) Amey of Madison, AL, and Emily Amey of New York City; five great-grandchildren, Denzel, Reggie and Zoie Amey of Circleville, Emma Cate and Claire Amey of Madison, AL; two nieces Barbara Scholtz of Cincinnati and Shirley Schaffner of Baltimore OH.
Ralph served as a Berger Hospital volunteer for 15 years, and as a volunteer for the American Red Cross. He was a member and Past Exalted Ruler of the BPO Elks. For years, he sang with the Elks Singers and as a member of the Community United Methodist Church choir.
He was a sonar man second class in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Following the service he worked for Container Corp. and had his own carpentry business. He was a construction superintendent for the Pickaway County YMCA and many houses in Knollwood Village and Garden City.
Ralph’s heart was filled with compassion, supporting many charities and always sharing smiles, jokes and encouragement with friends and family. He was adored by his children, grand and great grandchildren even when miles apart.

According to his wishes, Ralph will be cremated by Wellman Funeral Home, and a burial service at Floral Hills Memory Gardens will be announced in the Spring. Memorials are requested to be made to the Community United Methodist Church Music Fund and the Berger Hospital Volunteer department.
