Richard D. Brown of Circleville, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away September 10, 2010 at St. Ann's Mt. Carmel hospital. Richard was born Nov 21, 1932 in Manchester, New Hampshire to the late Frederick and Natalie (Ahern) Brown. He faithfully served his country in the regular US Army and the US Air Force, retiring from active duty January 1972. After retirement, he gained employment with the Federal Service and was hired as an electrician at Rickenbacker AFB, Ohio and later transferred to the Department of Veterans Affairs, Chillicothe, Ohio. He also work for a few years for the Goodyear Atomic Plant in Piketon, Ohio. On January 1, 1997, he retired, along with his wife, from the Department of Veterans Affairs. During his military career, he was stationed overseas in Germany guarding the Czech border, Saudi Arabia, and Vietnam. He was a life member of the Air Commando Association, Hurlburt, Florida, The Retired Enlisted Association, Disabled American Veteran, Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was also a member of the American Legion, Amvets, Moose, Eagles, and the Elks. He is protestant by faith and loved southern gospel music and watching the Rev. Charles Stanley on TV every Sunday. He is survived by his loving wife Betty (McDaniel) Brown whom he married on June 13, 1959. His loving children, Richard D. (Annette) Brown II of Portsmouth, Ohio and Nora (Ab) Lucas of Christiansburg, Va. Three grandchildren, RD Brown III; Joseph Lee Brown and Joshua Lawrence Brown.
Sisters Natalie (Bob) Isherwood, Oxford, Fl; Betty (Bob) Mullen of Bowie, Maryland, brother Thomas Brown of Utah. The extended family he loved so much, Sister-in-laws June Marcum; Lorrain McDaniel; Fay Allen; Sharon (Curtis) Graley. Brother-in-laws, Alva (Janet) McDaniel, and Glen (Betty) McDaniel. Special cousins, James (Joan) Connolly of Manchester, NH and Margaret Doyle of Portland Me. Many special nieces and nephews who all loved him so much. Preceded in death by his parents; sister Barbara Foote, and half brother Butch Zogopulos. His father and mother-in-law whom he loved so much, Alva and Elnora McDaniel, brother-in-laws, George and Frank McDaniel.
Surely God has taken a loving, precious soul from us but we will meet him somewhere in heaven. He has already spread his wings and is flying with the angels. Funeral services will be Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2010 at 11:30 am at the Wellman Funeral Home, Circleville. Burial will follow in White Gravel Cemetery in Minford, with full military honors. Friends may call Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm.
