Rick Jones

Rick Jones, 69, formerly of Laurelville passed away Monday, June 17, 2024 at 5:48 a.m. at Fairfield Medical Center after seeing some family members a couple of days before passing.  Rick was a 1973 graduate from Logan Elm High School where he was a great basketball player and then he started his career for Hocking Hills Forrestry where he retired after 28 ½  years.  He was the youngest one to retire.  Rick was involved with many organizations: Laurelville Fire Department EMS, Eagles, Redman Shriners, Masons, AKA Smokey Bear as Ranger Rick who everybody loved.  Rick got married in 2010 to Jane Shafer Jones on November 13th and became grandpa to Olivia, Arron and Nick, Annie and Noah who he loved very much.  Rick enjoyed going to girls basketball games Logan and OSU with his best friend Dennis VanCuren.  Rick enjoyed making his own flowers and taking pictures for everyone.  Rick enjoyed working at the visitors center in Laurelville where Rick enjoyed talking to new people and meeting new people.  Rick also enjoyed motorcycle riding with Steve Vandagriff and Dennis.  Judy Jarvis was Rick’s best friend, neighbor and hairdresser, Rick was like a brother to Judy.  Rick also liked driving to Kansas every year since 1978 to see his special niece Summer who shares the same birthday.  Rick loved going to family and friends outings and also enjoyed mushroom hunting, deer hunting until he wasn’t able to go anymore.  He is survived by loving wife Jane Jones; sisters Sherry Jones, Brenda Hart; brothers Mark (Tammy) Jones, Tim and Jimmy Thurston; sons Ian and Adam (Anita) Shafer and mother-in-law Rita; special nieces Summer Darnell, Joni Tatman, Brittney Wahl; nephew Brandon McNichols,  Jeremy “Pete” Shell, Josh and Jesse.  He was preceded in death by mother Edith Jones; father Kenneth (Winona) Jones; brother Mikey Jones, brother-in-laws Kenny Tatman, Mark Harden; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and grandchildren and by special friend Joe Link.  Funeral services Friday, June 21, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. at the Wellman Funeral Home, Laurelville with burial in Pine Grove Cemetery.  Visitation is on Friday from 11-3.  Online condolences can be made to www.wellmanfuneralhomes.com
