Ruth Brown

Ruth Lightle Schneider Brown, of Circleville, passed away February 7, 2007 at Brown Memorial Nursing Home. She was born January 27, 1911 to Floyd and Nora (Miller) Lightle. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Leo Lightle; sister, Cleo Pardee; husbands, Charles J. Schneider in 1970 and Clinton "Tinks" Brown, Jr. in 1990 and daughter-in-law, Marsha Schneider. Ruth graduated from Frankfort High School in Ross County and earned her bachelor's degree from Akron University in education. She later received her master's degree from Ohio University. She started her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse and taught in Frankfort, Chillicothe and Circleville. Ruth was instrumental in starting Circleville's 1st kindergarten in 1947. She was probably best known as a kindergarten teacher at Nicholas Drive Elementary School and was the principal there for many years. Ruth had a wish to be remembered by these words; "A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, what sort of house I lived in or the kind of car I drove. But the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child." Ruth was a member of the Pickaway County Garden Club, the Pickaway County Historical Society, the Pickaway County Retired Teachers Association, the Trinity Lutheran Church and the Elizabeth Circle. She is survived by sons, C. Joseph (Sharon) Schneider and G. Bradford (Katie) Schneider of Circleville, step-daughter, Barbara (Hal) Stubbs of Mt. Pleasant, S. Carolina; grandchildren, Sallie (Kent) Sauber, Benjamin Schneider, Elizabeth (Tim) Chrismer and Sarah (John) Grosse; four step-grandchildren; three great grandchildren and 7 step-great grandchildren. Funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday February 10, 2007 at the Wellman Funeral Home, Circleville with Pastor Don Bachman officiating. Burial will be in Forest Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Preschool, 135 E. Mound St., Circleville, OH 43113.
