Ruth Ann Massengale was born on July 2, 1943 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Curtis and Mary Ann (Hay) Smith. She died Saturday, April 4, 2015 at Mount Carmel West Hospital after a long fight with her health. She was 71 years old. She is preceded in death by her step-mother, Bonnie Smith and by her husband, Leonard Massengale. Ruth Ann and Leonard were married on February 18, 1961. Leonard passed away on May 3, 2004. She is survived by her 2 children, Leonard Dean (Tammi) of Eldora, Iowa and Deanna Jill (Simon) Perez of Darbyville, Ohio, grandsons; Ricky and Ben, granddaughters; Kasi and Tasha, great grandsons; Trevor and Riku, sisters; Janet (Ron) McNeal, Marjorie (Terry) Park, as well as many step-brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews and many friends. Ruth was a 15 year breast cancer survivor. Friends may contribute to the Breast Cancer Awareness in her memory if they so desire. Ruth was a devoted mother and loved her family very much. She had a beautiful, loving smile and a great sense of humor! She had to be a loving wife to pack and unpack their belongings, because Leonard loved to move from various locations in Ohio to Tennessee and then back to Darbyville. Leonard loved to buy some of the older houses in Darbyville, remodel them and sell them and then move on to the next one. I think there were 13 homes all together. That was a lot of work. (Wonder where they got all of the boxes?) Ruth will truly be missed by her family and friends, but she will be forever in our hearts and memories. Memorials are suggested to Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research, OSUCCC-James, Office of Development, c/o Wendy O’Brien, P.O. Box 183112, Columbus, Ohio 43218.
