Ruth Elizabeth (Cryder) Tootle was born on July 5, 1922 in Adelphi, Ohio to Franklin Holderman Cryder and Nellie Bowsher Cryder. When she was 7 years old, the family moved from New Hallsville, Ohio and withstood the depression years-1929-1936. While attending Centralia High School (now Zane Trace), she was active in 4-H, Farm Bureau youth, church and school activities, becoming class Valedictorian. She completed a B.S. degree in Home Economics (now Consumer Sciences) at The Ohio State University in 3 years and then married Dick Tiffin Tootle, high school boyfriend, on December 30, 1943. They lived on a family farm in Wayne Township, Pickaway County for 56 years before retiring to Circleville, Ohio in 2000.

She did substitute teaching for several years then full time at Walnut Township High School, then to Teays Valley High School until retirement. She was a member of the Community United Methodist Church, retired teacher, Delta Kappa Gamma, a teacher’s society, Friends of Berger and YMCA activities, wanted to be practical, useful and generous.

Going ahead to eternity were her parents, husband, brothers Wayne and Glenn. She is survived by sons, Thomas Franklin Tootle (Barbara) and Robert Mark Tootle (Constance), grandchildren Brian Tootle (Nathalia) of Hilliard, Megan Tootle Turner (Nathan) of Upper Arlington, Adam Tootle (Danielle) of Worthington, Molly Tootle of Circleville and Matthew S. Tootle (Brittany) of Circleville. Also surviving are 9 great grandchildren, Devyn, Lily, Preston, Gabriel, Kendall, Annabelle, Zach, Ava and Lyra. She leaves one niece, Nancy Cryder Jones (Carmi) and one nephew Dan D. Cryder (Diane) and one great niece, Hannah Elizabeth Cryder. She is survived by first cousins, John Cryder of Joliet, Illinois, many other cousins and friends. Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday April 25, 2025 at Community United Methodist Church with burial to follow in Springbank Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church on Friday from 10-11 a.m. In lieu of flowers contributions are suggested to Community United Methodist Church or Circleville City School Foundation.
