Thomas Royster, Jr., 79, of Circleville, died January 14, 2013 at his residence. He was born November 9, 1933 in Circleville. He later moved to New Boston where he graduated in 1952 from Glenwood High School. From 1954-1956 Tom served overseas in the United States Army with the 596th Engineering Battalion during the Korean Conflict. In 1957 Tom returned to Circleville and joined the Local General Electric Company where he was employed for 36 years. Tom was elected to City Council in 1983. He served 3 terms as Fourth Ward Councilman. Tom was Chairman of the Safety Committee for 4 years and served on the Finance & Ethics/Judicial Committees. From 1992-1995, Tom was elected as Mayor for the City of Circleville. At this time Tom took a 2 year leave of absence from General Electric to devote full-time to the position of Mayor. Tom is a member of the Pickaway County Masonic Lodge #23; past Master of Pickaway Lodge #23; and past President of the Masonic Temple Association; Member of Pickaway County Shrine Club and member of Amvets. Tom was one of the founders of the Pickaway County Pee Wee Football League and served as president for 5 years. Tom is survived by his wife, Carolyn (Gerard) Royster; children, Cathy Royster (Dr. Tim Rheinscheld) of Columbus, Connie Fraser of Circleville, and Tom Royster of Circleville; 3 grandchildren, Benjamin, Mallory and Sy and beloved pet, Babe. Funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday January 17, 2013 at the Wellman Funeral Home, Circleville, with Rev. James Lewis officiating. Burial will be in Forest Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday with Masonic Services at 7:45p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice or Alzheimers Association of Central Ohio.
