Viola Diehl

Everett Riley Diehl, age 95, Circleville, peacefully passed from this earth Thursday, November 10, 2016. He was born November 17, 1920 to Jessie and Jennie (Routt) Diehl in Hocking County, Ohio.

Viola O. (Meyers) Diehl, age 90, Circleville, unexpectedly joined her beloved husband of 48 years later the same day on November 10, 2016. She was born February 2, 1926 to Raymond and Alpha (Floyd) Myers in Pickaway County, Ohio.

Everett is predeceased by his parents and siblings; Gertrude, David, Ruby, Dessie, John, Esther, Raymond and Norma. He is survived by a sister, Dora, Circleville.

Vi is predeceased by her parents, a brother, Donald, her son, Dudley Meyers, and sister-in-law, Helen Meyers. She is survived by her brother, Marvin, Circleville.

Everett and Vi are predeceased by a grandson, Jimmy Blair, and son-in-law, Eddie Hurff.

They are survived by five children, David (Vicki) Diehl, Chillicothe, Jennifer Hurff, Las Vegas, NV, Everett Diehl Jr., Circleville, Jeanne Blair, Kingston, and Robert (Donna) Diehl, Circleville. There are 12 grandchildren; Amy (Charlie) Tooill, Shannon (Larry) Kitchen, Sondra (George) Smathers, Beth (Ernie) Glispie, Jodi (Mike) Nickels, Shelly (Jason) Hill, Cory Diehl, Sheila (Doug) Darling, Tom (Mallory) Blair, Rob (Hannah) Diehl, Nicky Meyers and Diane Meyers. There are 33 great-grandchildren.

Everett was a proud veteran of World War II and a recipient of a Purple Heart. He served in the Pacific Theater at Okinawa. His war stories were remarkable to hear, although he seldom spoke of them. He loved telling stories about his youth and family, but most of all of his many hunting exploits. He worked as a carpenter and on construction, having built many of the bridges in Franklin County.

Vi worked locally as a grill cook for many years, but more recently as domestic help in several homes and businesses. She was very proud of her work at Grace Episcopal Church, Circleville, where she was a member. She delighted in arranging the alter and participating in the church functions.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the Grace Episcopal Church, 574 Main Street, Circleville, Ohio 43113 with Father Ron Fiester officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Cemetery. Friends may call at the Wellman Funeral Home, Circleville on Monday from 4-8 p.m.
