Wendell Louis Potter, 76, of Circleville, Ohio, went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on Friday, December 22, 2017. The son of Lester Homer Potter, Wendell was born in Weatherford, Oklahoma on November 8, 1941 and was raised by his grandparents, AB and Mary Potter. Wendell was a graduate of Oklahoma Panhandle State University, followed by a career in computer technology and network administration. Favorite hobbies included spending time with family, computer science, electronics, and metal detecting. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Mary Cornelia Potter; children Kimberly Smith, Timothy (Kelly) Potter, and Ericka (David) Purtee; grandchildren Dustin Potter, Brandon Richley, Derrick Richley, Mary Purtee, Zachary Purtee, Shane Hoffman, Isaac Purtee, Emma Potter, Evelyn Potter, Sarah Potter, and Wyatt Potter; and great-grandchildren Hannah Potter and Gracie Potter. As a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Wendell was known as Wimpa and Papa to his grandchildren. He was a dedicated Christian and attended Logan Elm Baptist Church in Circleville, Ohio. Wendell enlisted in the United States Army in January, 1959; stations included Japan, Taiwan, and Vietnam. Awards for service included: the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one Bronze Star, and Vietnam Campaign Medal. Wendell received an Honorable Discharge January, 1968, later followed by service in the Army Reserve until February, 1999, and retired as a Sergeant First Class with over 20 years of service. Visitation will occur from 10 to 11 at Logan Elm Baptist Church, 22530 Bolender Pontious Rd, Circelville, on Thursday, December 28, 2017, with funeral services starting at 11 and Pastor Dave Cavanaugh officiating. Graveside burial will then immediately follow at Forest Cemetery on North Court Street, Circleville, Ohio. Arrangements were completed by the Wellman Funeral Home, Circleville.
