William “Bill” G Curtiss, age 87, died March14, 2013 in Circleville. He was born in Nashville, Tennessee to Polk Curtiss and Ivy Curtiss Carter. He was preceded in death by his son, James William Curtiss, his parents and a sister, Lucille Curtiss. He is survived by his wife of 62 years Ann Chilton Curtiss and daughter, Amy Curtiss Davidoff, Grandson, Robert William Davidoff and Granddaughter, Sarah Ellen Davidoff of Cincinnati, Ohio, brother-in-law, Robert Chilton and nephews, David, Donald and Larry Chilton in Texas. Bill earned a GED graduation certificate after serving in the European Theater of Operations during World War II. He was in the Combat Engineers attached to the 3rd Army. He graduated from Vanderbilt University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and went to work for the DuPont Company at Old Hickory, Tennessee. He transferred to Buffalo N.Y help bring Mylar on line as a commercial product. He was one of the first to come to the Circleville Mylar plant, in 1954. He worked in various supervisory and engineering capacities during his career with DuPont. He retired in 1982.
He and Ann Chilton were married after his graduation from Vanderbilt, and his home and family were the most important things in Bill’s life. He enjoyed working in the yard and doing things to improve his home. He was supportive of his children’s activities, serving in many volunteer positions. After retirement, he and Ann attended many Elderhostels and especially enjoyed time spent with their grandchildren. Bill was a Trustee of The Pickaway County Historical Society, served on many boards and taught Sunday School at Community United Methodist Church. Bill loved to talk with people and took an active interest in current events and national and international news. He had a puckish sense of humor and loved to keep things lively. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him and especially by his family who loved him so dearly. There will be a Memorial Service for Bill at Community UMC at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday March 23, 2013. Calling hours at the church will begin at 1:00 PM, prior to the service. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Heartland Hospice Memorial Fund, PO Box 10086, Toledo OH 43699-5989 or to the Compassion Fund at Community UMC, 120 N. Pickaway Street, Circleville,Oh. 43113. Arrangements completed by the Wellman Funeral Home, Circleville.
